Stan was born in 1924 and joined the Royal Army Service Corps and then went on to volunteer for the Parachute Regiment.
Stan wast posted out to Burma and returned back to England in 1944 for Operation Market Garden. He made the jump into Arnhem on 17 September 1944. He landed but could not get any further, so he had to withdraw and swam back over the river Rhine, exactly like in the film A Bridge Too Far. He made it back to England, only to be posted out to India.
Stan came out the army in 1947, married and got a job at Lucas Industries in Birmingham as an engineer then into the Post Office.
